Bandhas before breakfast

My heart sinks whenever anyone suggests yoga before work. Set my alarm earlier than usual and leave the house without eating? No thanks. But at this time of year, it’s a more tempting prospect, particularly if it’s outdoors and includes a healthy post-yoga breakfast. The following classes are all a great way to start the day in the Capital, whether you’re a local or just visiting.

Triyoga + breakfast at Selfridges, W1

You don’t even need to get up particularly early for this triyoga class, which takes place every Tuesday at 10am in the store’s Forest on the Roof. Mats are supplied but changing facilities are limited – and if it rains, participants can either get their money back or can rebook for another session. Cost is £20 pre-booked online or £25 on the door and includes breakfast of avocado on toast (what else?) and fresh fruit juice. Until 30 August.Roof garden, Ham Yard HotelSunrise sessions at Ham Yard Hotel, WC2

The Soho hotel has just launched a six-week series of Equinox sunrise vinyasa classes, to take place in the pretty roof garden (above) at 7.15am every Wednesday until 27 July. This class, which costs £20, only includes a cold-press juice, so if breakfast is a deal-breaker, book the 10am session on 30 July (£35) which includes a hearty brunch. Frame's Breakfast BarreBreakfast Barre class in King’s Cross

Once a month a company called Frame organises a 60-minute low impact class on the banks of Regent’s Canal, using the railings as an impromptu barre. Running from 7.30am-8.30am, the classes are followed by a gluten, dairy and refined sugar-free Frame breakfast (granola pots, acai bowls, smoothies and freshly pressed juices) which you can eat there or take away. The next classes take place on 27 July and 24 August and cost £15. Yogasphere at The View from The ShardYoga at The Shard

This class doesn’t meet my criteria – breakfast isn’t included and classes are indoors – but given that it’s held at the The View from The Shard, 244m above London, it’s one I’d definitely set my alarm for. The hour-long classes are run by Yogasphere and take place at 8.30am every Saturday in July. Cost is £40, which includes a goody bag and the chance for participants to enjoy the view for 30 minutes after the class finishes.
