According to The Sleep Council a growing number of us are getting less than six hours’ sleep a night. So here’s something that might be worth a try: a night at Dukes London. Dukes, in a quiet courtyard setting in Mayfair, has just introduced what it calls a Beditation Butler. Beditation, in case you didn’t know, is a form of mindfulness aimed at promoting a good night’s sleep. The term is even recognised by the NHS, which has a beditation video tutorial on its website. The Dukes luxury version involves what it calls ‘mindful room service’ in which herbal teas, podcasts and playlists offering tips on calming breathing exercises are delivered to your bedside. There’s another reason for staying at Dukes this year. As part of a multi-million-pound renovation programme the hotel has teamed up with Liberty London and the hotel’s Duchess Rooms, which have been designed with solo female travellers in mind, will soon be swathed in iconic Liberty prints. It probably won’t help you nod off , but at least you’ll be sleepless in pretty surroundings.Alternatively, you could forget the mattress meditation and the Liberty prints and head for the bar. A former favourite of James Bond author Ian Fleming, Dukes Bar is generally agreed to serve the best martinis in town. Bond’s tipple was a Vesper martini but we’re going for a White Truffle version: dry Vermouth and potato vodka, garnished with an olive stuffed with cheese marinated in homemade truffle vodka. Two should see us off to Bedfordshire quite nicely.
