New York, Friday 13th November: The 6th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business was celebrated at an awards dinner at New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel.
One of the worlds most coveted business awards, the Stevie Awards was created to honour the achievements and positive contributions of organisations and business women worldwide.
‘Best New Company of the Year’ was awarded to Niamh Barker for her outstanding business acumen and inspirational concept. The 100% Scottish cashmere Travelwrap and accessories are designed by Niamh using ethically sourced cashmere and are then knitted and hand finished in one of Scotland’s finest mills. Niamh was a career pharmacist in the Pharma industry and then went on to have 2 children of her own and also took responsibility for her stepchildren so she figured things had to change direction.
“I worked as a pharmacist in the Pharmaceutical Industry for 10 years (laterally as Head of Medical Affairs (UK), Pfizer Consumer Healthcare) but I had little basic knowledge in starting and running a company. After I had children I re-focused my priorities and wanted to do something that would fit alongside family life but provide a vehicle for my design inclination and achieve commercial success. On a personal level, I manage a busy family life (2 children, 4 stepchildren) alongside the growing business. This can be a challenge!” |
