Order Travelwrap, check. Write card, check. Make reservations for afternoon tea – ah. Don’t panic: here are five London venues that every Mum will love.

Fortnum & Mason on Piccadilly will be serving a special Mother’s Day tea, pictured top, in the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon. On the menu are a choice of tea blends, finger sandwiches, home-baked scones served with cream, jam or curd and a selection of cakes including a rose choux bun, Gianduja (milk chocolate and hazelnut mousse) cake, orange blossom cake, white chocolate and rhubarb swiss roll and passionfruit and vanilla mousse. From £49 per person; available from 10-11 March and 12-13 May for International Mother’s Day. Admittedly, we’re slightly obsessed with The Berkeley’s ‘couture’ afternoon tea. Prêt-à-Portea is inspired by the world of fashion and every season head pastry chef Mourad Khiat creates a new collection of adorable biscuits, bakes and fancies. Mums with an interest in fashion will love it. £52 per person or £62 to include a glass of Laurent-Perrier Champagne. At the Royal Academy in Piccadilly afternoon tea in the Keeper’s House restaurant comes with a complimentary ‘Mum’s the word’ cocktail of rhubarb liqueur with vodka and fresh lemon topped with soda. Tea will include homemade finger sandwiches, a mini Turkish delight, passion fruit layer mousse, salted caramel and chocolate tart and a buttermilk scone served with jam, Cornish clotted cream and a choice of tea. £35 per person, which includes entry to the ‘Charles I: King and Collector’ exhibition; available from 9-11 March. The afternoon tea specially created by The Ritz for Mother’s Day includes a glass of Ritz Rosé Champagne and an assortment of finger sandwiches, French pastries and scones with jam and Cornish clotted cream. The Ritz is the only hotel in the UK with a certified Tea Sommelier and you can choose from 18 varieties of loose-leaf tea. £90 per person including a Mother’s Day gift. For something a bit different, try Tea Total at W London where each cake will be a paired with a version of one of the hotel’s signature cocktails: the rosemary & chocolate shortbread cup, mango mousse and liquorice marshmallow, for example, is teamed with a Black Forest sour. Savouries include twists on traditional afternoon tea sandwiches, including smoked salmon with cream cheese on cranberry bread and roast beef with Dijon mayo on onion bread. From £35 per person.
