In our view, no trip to the English seaside is complete without a crab sandwich. So we’ve already downloaded the Congham Crab Crawl, a new guide to the best places to tuck into Norfolk’s famous crustacean. Cromer crabPhoto: Visit East Anglia

Produced by Congham Hall Hotel, itself located just outside King’s Lynn, The Congham Cab Crawl recommends cafés, restaurants and even stalls in this, the home of the Cromer crab, said to be the UK’s tastiest crustacean. No 1 Cromer, Cromer, NorfolkPhoto: Rachel Graham

The tour includes Michelin-star chef Galton Blackiston’s No1 Cromer, just a few steps from Cromer pier. Downstairs it’s a traditional chippie, serving dressed Cromer crab rolls alongside the cod, plaice and haddock and chips. Upstairs, there’s a dining room with a more upmarket menu: here the crab comes in a burger with chips, sweetcorn relish, guacamole and pickled cucumber. The Crab Hut, Brancaster Straithe, NorfolkAlso on the tour is The Crab Hut in Brancaster Staithe harbour. Crab Hut is run by local fisherman and smokehouse-owner Simon Letzer who serves baguettes stuffed with crab, prawns, cockles, mussels, whelks, rollmops, crayfish, smoked salmon, kippers and lobster, according to what’s available. Joyful West's Shellfish Bar, Sheringham, NorfolkJoyful West’s is close to the seafront in Sheringham. Selling local crab and seafood, the shellfish bar is named for the late Jack ‘Joyful’ West, a local fisherman and lifeboat coxswain.
