Up and away
Treetop hideaways are nothing new: the Medicis apparently had a penchant for them. What has evolved is treehouse design, with many leafy dwellings now every bit as stylish as a boutique hotel. Here are five of our favourites, all bookable through TripAdvisor Rentals.Suspended 11m off the forest floor in Oise, France, contemporary Raray Treehouse, above and top, is a leafy sanctuary for two with a separate bathroom, terrace and private hot tub. Breakfast, which is included in the price, is delivered below and can be pulled up by rope. Sleeps 2; rom £287 per night.Equally contemporary but on a larger scale, Pura Vida is an award-winning ‘eco-luxury’ treehouse in the rainforests of Costa Rica. It boasts an infinity plunge pool and wraparound lounge area where you can sit back with a glass of wine and drink in those awesome views. Sleeps 7; from £150 per night. The Treehouse Retreat, in North Devon, has been styled by leading home brand Wayfair exclusively for TripAdvisor Rentals so guests want for nothing. Inside, there’s a meditation and yoga corner, games area and reading nook outside, while outside there’s a spacious terrace with a wood-fired pizza oven. Sleeps 2; from £205 per night.Stolidi Mou, in Rethymnon, Crete, has been built in the branches of a magnificent oak tree and is as spacious as it is stylish. The wooden floors and ceilings combine with soft brown and grey fabrics and furniture to create a natural feel throughout and there’s a private Jacuzzi on the terrace. Sleeps 4; from £181 per night. The Buzzardry, in Heathfield, East Sussex, is a stunner, with gently curving walls, a luxurious copper bathtub, soaring beamed ceilings and magnificent views over woodland grounds, which also include a tennis court (not that you’ll want to leave such a stylish eyrie). Sleeps 4; from £230 per night.
